Deadline is reporting that J.J. Abrams, creator of Lost, Fringe, and the director of the two new Star Trek Films has signed on to direct the upcoming Star Wars Episode 7 for Disney.
Word is that it came down to him and Ben Affleck, but that Kathleen Kennedy really wanted Abrams and courted him heavily for the gig.
This will be the first new Star Wars film since the craptastic prequels that culminated in the crap fest that was Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith.
Michael Arndt scripting the new film.
