In an interview with Boxoffice.com, director Joe Johnston (The Wolfman) reveals details about two much anticipated project, namely “Jurassic Park 4” and “Captain America: The First Avenger.”
According to Johnston, JP4 is “going to be unlike anything you’ve seen.” He hints at the possibility of a second trilogy and describes the plot as, “essentially the beginning of the second Jurassic Park trilogy.” What this means is a possible unofficial franchise reboot.
As for Captain America, Johnston teases, “It’s mostly period-there are modern, present-day bookends on it-but it’s basically the story of how Steve Rogers becomes Captain America.” Johnston insist however that while Captain America’s origin will remain similar to that of the comics (rooted in WWII), the character will receive a much needed face lift.
“It’s not going to be a Captain America that you expect. It’s something different. It is influenced by the comic book, but it goes off in a completely different direction.”
While we don’t know for sure what Johnston means by “different direction” we can only hope that with the recent announcement of the Spider-Man reboot, it’d mean “Captain America” will take on a more modern and contemporary twist. As one of Marvel’ flagship properties, we doubt it’ll be too gritty or realistic like “The Dark Knight.” But hopefully it won’t be as watered down as the “Fantastic Four.”
