Disney’s streaming network has just landed another whale. Jon Favreau, director of films like Swingers, Iron Man, Jungle Book, and the upcoming live action Lion King reboot, has been tapped by the house of mouse to write and produce their first live action TV series set in the Star Wars universe. The director is no stranger to Star Wars as he’s had voice roles in both Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the upcoming film, Solo: A Star Wars Story, where he plays some sort of monkey-like creature.
Here’s what Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy had to say about the new project:
“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform. Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”
We have no idea what the premise of the new show will be, but we’ll probably find out sometime before the Disney Streaming Network launches in 2019.
