I was not expecting to be writing that I’m actually excited about any horror film, let alone a horror film written and directed by one half of the comedy duo, Key and Peele. But here I am and here we are, and that’s exactly what I’m doing.
The film stands out a different in a world where it’s all about the jump scare. Sure, there’s plenty of those, even in the trailer, but the film is racially charged, and genuinely freaky. It feels a bit like the Stepford Wives meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers and it might be even stranger than either of them.
The film, which was both written and directed by Peele, features a great cast that includes Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Catherine Keener, Bradley Whitford. Get Out hits theaters next February.
Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya, Sicario) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams, Girls), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy (Catherine Keener, Captain Phillips) and Dean (Bradley Whitford, The Cabin in the Woods). At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.
