According to several sources, directors Paul Sollett (Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist) and Joss Whedon (Dollouse, Firefly) are in negotiations with Marvel to helm an adaptation of “Runaways.”
The project is being described as, “The Breakfast Club with superheroes” or the next “Goonies” and was originally created by Brian K. Vaughn (Ex Machina, Y: The Last Man). The series is about a band of teens who become unofficial/official superheroes after discovering that their parents are actually super villains.
If I had to pick a director of choice, I’m not afraid to admit that I’d prefer Whedon and more very obvious and bias reasons. He’s proven that he can write smart dialogue, has tremendous experience directing projects with young teens, and let’s not forget, he was also the writer for the tailing end to the second volume of the “Runaways” comics.
Vaughn is currently working on a script and the project isn’t slated until after the Avengerspolooza that Marvel Comics is planning. But when the dust settles we might all be in for a big treat.
