Just When You Thought it Was Safe To Watch TV…

TV is supposed to be our friend. It is a magical box that feeds us mind-numbing entertainment and stories that make us forget our 9-5 existence as cube slaves to the man. Last year, TV was a cruel mistress. Tempting us with fine programming and new shows, only to pull it all away just as we got into them… kicking mud in our faces and grinding her cigarette out on our necks.

Then… this fall, she came back to us with a sack of new episodes and a promise that she’d never do that to us again. Of course we took her back. Its what we do. We forgive, forget and program our Tivos.

Well, she’s at it again and this time it might just not be our TV. It could be movies too. After months of talks, it looks like SAG (Screen Actors Guild) is getting ready to vote for a strike.

Some say this is just a final attempt to force an agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, but if the strike passes, you can kiss your TV shows and movies goodbye. On the other hand, if you love reality TV, you are going to be very happy.

For me, I just hope that more creators go the route that Joss Whedon did with Dr. Horrible. Online content is really looking like it might be the future. TV networks and movie studios are in for a rude awakening.
