IN a new interview with Vanity Fair, MCU mastermind, Kevin Feige sat down to talk about the future of the film franchise and what Avengers 4 is going to mean to the future of Marvel’s comic book film universe. In the interview he definitely did not mince words about the fact that some of our favorite heroes will definitely be stepping down after the fourth Avengers installment:
“After Avengers 4, an ambitious multi-franchise crossover movie slated for release in 2019, at least some of the original characters who sit at the center of the billion-dollar Avengers team will be hanging up their capes and shields.”
As to who is going to leave, you can take capes and shields to guess that we’ll at least be losing Captain America and Thor, but contracts are up for Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Chris Evans, so we could be looking at a pretty massive changing of the guard.
The good news is that we are no where near the end of the MCU, just maybe the MCU as we know it. In the interview, Feige said that there were already 20 more films slated for the next MCU arc, in the mean time, he promised us something that could be pretty spectacular for Avengers 4:
Avengers 4, he said, will “bring things you’ve never seen in superhero films: a finale. There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting.”
