Kevin Smith To Develop ‘Green Hornet’ Animated Series

Kevin Smith may have found his niche in animation. Along with the new He-Man series he’s working on for Netflix that continues where they original animated series left off, he’s now also partnering with Wildbrain to create a new animated show based on Green Hornet.

A long time fan of the character, Smith actually had written an unproduced film script for a film. While that movie never got made, Seth Rogen and Michael Gondry did bring Green Hornet to the big screen in 2011. After his film never happened, he did get a chance to write a mini-series comic based on the Hornet for Dynamite Entertainment.

In the new series, which is set for an all-ages audience, we’ll see the grown-up son of the original Green Hornet partnering with the grown-up daughter of the original Kato. When Green Hornet was originally developed for television, Bruce Lee held the role of Kato.

Here’s what Smith had to say to Deadline about the new series.

“It’s an honor to escort the legendary Green Hornet and Kato into their very own animated series for the first time in the rich history of these iconic pop culture characters. We’ll be telling a tale of two Hornets – past and future – that spans generations and draws inspiration from a lifetime spent watching classic cartoons and amazing animation like Batman: The Animated Series, Heavy Metal, and Super Friends. I can’t believe WildBrain gave me this job and I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity to extend my childhood a little longer.”
