Kevin Smith’s Hockey Melodrama ‘Hit Somebody’ To Be Two-Parter

Director Kevin Smith (Red State) has recently announced his retirement following the release of his final film “Hit Somebody,” which will be released in two parts a la “Kill Bill.”

The hockey centric story will follow Buddy, a day-dreaming “Canadian farm boy” who fantasies about scoring a goal in the National Hockey League. The first installment will depict his childhood while the second half will see him become a professional hockey player who’s told to act as a “goon” on the ice. But Buddy has bigger dreams.

Nicholas Braun (Prom) has been cast to start in the first film. Braun will reunite with Smith who was cast in Smith’s upcoming “Red State.”

The title of the film comes from a song by Warren Zevon about a Canadian teenager who wants to be a hockey star despite being not “that good with a puck.”

Smith won’t retire complete from the film industry however. He expects to become a distributor and producer of movies through his new Smodcast Films.
