Although Matthew Vaughn’s “Kick-Ass” has yet to debut, it has been well received so far by screeners and critics alike. If the high praises continue and it ends up becoming a box-office success, a sequel will definitely be in the works.
Apparently both Vaughn and Kick-Ass-creator Mark Millar have already begun discussing a potential sequel since the first film went into production. Comic artist John Romita Jr. who worked on the Kick-Ass comic book has announced that there will be things to show for the upcoming sequel this year at San Diego Comic-Con. While this doesn’t confirm a big screen adaption of “Kick-As 2,” it does all but guarentee it if the first film does well.
Moreover, GeekTyrant reports that the sequel will be more dark than the first. Citing that while Kick-Ass is already pretty dark and disturbing, there were a lot of things that were impossible to film and that “no one’s going to see it because it’s too disgusting.”
Additionally according to Miller, while Red Mist is expected to return in the sequel, there will be a new villain with a crazy name unheard of in a superhero comic:
Red Mist becomes the Joker to [Kick-Ass], you know? But we’re talking about another villain as well, so he’ll almost be a sidekick to this other guy. My working [name is] somewhere between the motherfucker and the cunts. That’s the two names I’m thinking of. I mean, it’s better than the Joker, isn’t it?
