If you haven’t had a chance to check out Kim’s Convenience, you are missing out. The Canadian sitcom about a Korean family who own a convenience store is one of the best sitcoms on TV right now. When it first launched, we had to rely on people uploading episodes to YouTube for us to get our fix in the US. Thankfully, Netflix has been carrying the series for a couple of seasons now, anyone can see it. While the show has gotten the most recognition for Simu Liu, the star of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, it is the complete ensemble that makes the show special.
Like most shows, Kim’s Convenience was delayed by the pandemic, but it has now been announced that production is beginning on season 5 of the CBC series. The show stars Jean Yoon as Umma, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as Appa, Andrea Bang their daughter Janet, Simu Liu as their son Jung, Nicole Power as Jung’s girlfriend Shannon, and Andrew Phung as Kimchee, Jung’s best friend.
Here’s what the release had to say about the new season:
In season five, the Kim family faces one of its toughest challenges yet, as they navigate a difficult medical diagnosis for Umma (Jean Yoon). With Appa (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) stepping up as the primary caregiver, and a recently graduated Janet (Andrea Bang) moving back in, boundaries are inevitably crossed. Meanwhile, Jung’s (Simu Liu) brief trip to business school tests his relationship with Shannon (Nicole Power) as Kimchee (Andrew Phung) reconnects with his family, and his high school crush.
There’s currently no word on when the new season will air in either Canada or on Netflix, but we strongly recommend checking out season 1-4 in the meantime.
