Remaking an iconic Japanese manga/anime as an American live action film is tricky business. Just think about all the times they’ve started and stopped working on an Akira adaptation. While that movie will hopefully never happen, we are getting our own take on Ghost in the Shell. I’ve got no problem with the casting of Scarlett Johansson in the lead role of the film. The original source material always looked like the character of The Major was of Caucasian descent.
In the last 36 hours or so, images have leaked from the set of the film that give us our first real look at Johansson and the rest of the Section 9 team and the internet is not pleased. Personally, I don’t want to draw a conclusion just yet. From the quality of the images, it looks like they were taken off a bad security camera. Let’s just give it until we get a full trailer. Then we’ll have a much better idea of what the real situation is.
