Look Who’s Getting A Remake – It’s ‘Look Who’s Talking’

The remake train is rolling on and this time it’s bringing a talking baby along for the ride. Deadline is reporting that Wedding Ringer director Jeremy Garelick will be writing and directing a remake of the 1989 hit film, Look Who’s Talking.

If you haven’t seen Look Who’s Talking, it’s a romantic comedy from the late 80’s about a woman (Kristie Alley) who gets by a married businessman, but eventually falls for blue-collar fix it guy – turned baby sitter, John Travolta. Meanwhile, the baby can talk, well only the audience can hear him, but he is a big character in the film… and he’s voiced by Bruce Willis. The film was a big enough hit that it spawned multiple sequels in Look Who’s Talking Too, and Look Who’s Talking Now. I’m sure that franchise potential is a big part of the reason why the story is being dusted off for another pass.

Here’s what Garelick told Deadline about the new film:

“What excited me about doing is, I have four kids, including twins, and this is something they can watch, and share some of the experience I had with my wife…Like, figuring out how to raise these kids, with all the mistakes that happen. Add in the voices that are keyed to facial expressions, it just really seems like a fun idea. Everyone can relate to babies. The challenge is, that was a really good movie, Travolta and Kirstie Alley had great chemistry and Amy Heckerling wrote a great script. We’re in the early stages of figuring out what the story is for the modern version of the movie.”

There’s currently no word on when the film will hit theaters, who will star in it, or how the story will be changed just enough so that someone online will complain that their childhood is being ruined.
