Loony Toons cartoons have always been funny, daring, and more than a little bit violent. For as long as we can remember, Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Wile E. Coyote and all the rest have used every manner of weapon from boulders to bombs, to bullets as they constantly try to take each other out. Now, as Loony Toons is set to return to HBO Max, it now appears that the animated shorts will no longer allow the use of guns.
As you can see from the cartoon below, bladed weapons and explosives are cool, but guns are now forbidden. We get the reason for the change. Warner/ ATT does not want to look like they are advertising gun violence to children. It’s a sign of the times. But, we still can’t help but notice that pretty much all other forms of violence are cool with them.
Here’s a classic Loony Toon clip that will never be aired on the new show, or to the next generation of Bugs Bunny fans.
