‘Lord Of The Rings’ – Amazon Prime Series Finds Its Director

Deadline is reporting that Amazon Prime’s Lord Of The Rings series has landed J.A. Bayona as its director. Bayona’s last film was the critically panned, but box-office hit Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, but he has mad some amazing movies like The Impossible, and The Orphanage.

All we really know about the upcoming series is that it is set to take place before the events of The Fellowship Of The Ring. Here’s what Bayona had to say about coming on to the new show:

“J.R.R. Tolkien created one of the most extraordinary and inspiring stories of all time, and as a lifelong fan it is an honor and a joy to join this amazing team. I can’t wait to take audiences around the world to Middle-earth and have them discover the wonders of the Second Age, with a never before seen story.”

The new series has an all-star writing room which is being led by JD Payne and Patrick McKay (The Upcoming Flash Gordon Movie), as well as Gennifer Hutchison (Breaking Bad) and Bryan Cogman (Game of Thrones). Here’s what the head writers told Deadline about Bayona joining the show:

“We are thrilled to have J.A. and Belén joining the fellowship as we continue to develop this epic series,” said Payne and McKay. “We have been great admirers of J.A.’s work for years, and know that his epic, cinematic and deeply heartfelt aesthetic is the perfect sensibility to bring Middle-earth to life anew.”
