If you’re craving a chance to see more Middle Earth stories, but are more than a little skeptical about Amazon Prime’s Lord of the Rings: Power of The Rings, then Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim could be exactly what you are looking for. Announced halfway through last year, the anime-style feature film is being produced by Warner Bros and several of the names behind Peter Jackson’s original LOTR films. Now we know that the movie should be coming out just after season three of the upcoming Amazon Prime series (with no relation to it) in April of 2024.
As we had previously reported last summer, the film is set around 200 years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings,” “The War of the Rohirrim” and focuses on Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan, and the creation of Helm’s Deep.
The film is being directed by Kenji Kamiyama (the TV series “Blade Runner: Black Lotus” and “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex”). According to Variety, One of the original screenwriters on the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, Philippa Boyens is executive producing the film with her daughter, Phoebe Gittins handling the new script with Arty Papageorgiou. Meanwhile, Richard Taylor (multiple Academy Awards for makeup and visual effects for “The Lord of the Rings”), Alan Lee (Won the Oscar for art direction on Lord Of The Rings), and Tolkien illustrator John Howe are all on-board.
