If there’s one Star Wars spin-off movie that fans have been begging for, it’s the Obi Wan movie that tells the story of the Jedi Master’s life between the events of Revenge of The Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope. Sure, we’ve gotten a glimpse of him in the most recent season of Star Wars Rebels, but it’s just not the same.

While the fans have been clammoring for it, Disney and Star Wars have instead focused on movies that have more merchandising opportunities, like Han Solo and Boba Fett. Thankfully, THR is now reporting that Disney and Lucasfilm are in talks with director Stephen Daldry to tackle the project.

The choice of Daldry is a departure from their recent, relatively new director choices that have often led to major reshoots and even the recent firing of Phil Lord and Chris Miller from the Han Solo film the subsequent replacement with Ron Howard.

For his part, Daldry comes to the table with some pretty heavy prestige in the way of being a three time Academy Award nominee for ‘The Reader’, ‘The Hours’. and ‘Billy Elliot’.

There’s currently no word on whether or not will see Ewan McGregor reprise his role a Obi Wan from the Prequels, but let’s face it, if they tried to recast him, the internet is going to riot.
