Despite some of the worse reviews (a current 6% Freshness meter on Rotten Tomaotes) and opening up against “Twilight Sage’s Eclipse,” Paramount’s “The Last Airbender” from M. Night Shyamalan opened to a decent $3 million on Thursday midnight screenings.
Paramount says this is the highest midnight gross this summer for a non-sequel. With a budget price of $145M and about a $50+M marketing campaign, things aren’t looking great, but still good for a film based off the animated TV series from Nickelodeon called “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
By the end of the 4th of July weekend, it’s projected to come in second behind Twilight at around $50 to $60 million that is unless all the bad reviews and first impressions don’t scare people off.
