Fantastic Beasts and where to find them has not been the Harry Potter franchise follow-up that fans were hoping for, but the name value alone has made the first two films both profitable in the theater and in the realm of merchandising. So, instead of letting the franchise die as they probably should, they are pushing and re-casting the role of Grindelwald. In a new report from Variety, it has now been revealed that Rogue One/ Hannibal star, Mads Mikkelsen is now in talks to take the role that was held by Colin Ferrel in the first Beasts movie and Johnny Depp in the second.
The film is already in production, but sources are saying that Depp only shot one scene before being asked to resign after losing his first libel case against UK tabloids. As it currently stands, Fantastic Beasts 3 is set to hit theaters on July 15, 2022.
