The Live action film adaptation of Mattel’s iconic Barbie Doll is happening. After a brief stint when Amy Shumer was attached to star in the film, she was eventually replaced with Harley Quinn herself, Margot Robbie. Now, word is coming down that the film has found two fine writers in the form of Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) and Noah Baumbach (The Meyerowitz Stories).
The fact that writers are just being brought in now might mean that the film’s May 8, 2020 release date will have to be pushed back. With such an iconic license, we know that Mattel would hate to follow suit with the last horrible toy movie, Battleship.
Along with her work as the star of the film, Robbie will also produce with Tom Ackerly and LuckyChap Entertainment, Robbie Brenner of Mattel, Josey McNamara, and Ynon Kreiz.
