Deadline is reporting that Marvel is about to launch a series of new scripted and unscripted podcasts including story-driven series based around Wolverine, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Star-Lord.
In the same way that the CWverse built their show universe, and the Netflix built up the Defenders, SiriusXM and Pandora will feature individual series based on the above-mentioned characters, leading to a crossover podcast series later in 2020. On the unscripted side of things, Marvel will also launch interview shows and regular talk show style podcasts.
Dan Buckley, President of Marvel Entertainment, had this to say:
“Powerful stories are read, seen, and heard – and we believe audio is the next natural step to bring the Marvel Universe to fans around the world. Storytelling has always been at the heart of Marvel’s success, and SiriusXM and Pandora have the right platform and expertise to bring Marvel’s rich tapestry of stories to listeners in a whole new way. We are excited to introduce an impressive roster of programming with SiriusXM and Pandora, and we can’t wait to share more details in the weeks and months to come.”
There’s currently no word on whether the new podcasts will have any connection to the MCU, the comic book canon, or if they will exist in their own pocket universe.
