Marvel’s ‘Inhumans’ – Let The CYA Games Begin!

Marvel’s Inhumans currently exists under a seriously dark cloud. The show, which is set to premier in just a couple of weeks in Imax theaters before moving over to ABC has not been able to catch a break since the first trailer universally disappointed pretty much anyone that actually saw it. Now it’s time for everyone involved to distance themselves from the project and make sure that if it fails, they don’t get the blame.

The first person who has seemingly jumped on this train is Roel Reiné, the director of the first two episodes of the event series. CNET has posted a new article titled, “What did Marvel look for in Inhumans? Fast and cheap”, in which they interviewed the director, and he was more than happy to give his honest opinion:

On how he got the job and what the process was like:
“I think they liked me for the job because I was able with my action movies to shoot in a very short time, or with very low budgets, action that looks like a big-budget movie.”

“The schedule was super-tight. I had TV schedule time to shoot it with Imax cameras, 20 days to shoot two episodes. It’s nerve-wracking but I come from a low-budget film world, so 20 days for me is luxury.”

He also went on to describe that the show’s production was constantly being overseen by handlers from Marvel that may have micromanaged the shoot.

“There was always a Marvel executive around me, just to make sure that whatever I did, or whatever we did together, would tie in with other characters in other universes, in other comics, in other series or movies. They’re very protective. These people are very passionate about their product and about characters and about doing the best version of everything.”
