Could we be seeing a new Doctor for the Doctor Who 50th anniversary? In a recent interview with VH1, actor Matt Smith may have inadvertently revealed that he’s leaving “Doctor Who” after next season. Here’s what Smith said in the interview:
I’ve got another year of Doctor Who, but then I’m certainly going to come and give it a shot – come and hang out in LA … As you say, people like Andy [Garfield] have come over, and he’s a mate of mine. I’m very proud to see him doing Spider-Man, ’cause we did a play together, and, you know, Spider-Man now.
Although Smith’s comment does not confirm that he’s leaving the show, he does reveal that his contract ends after next season. And if you take it literally, it would seem like he’s leaving after the next series of “Doctor Who.” But with the 50th Anniversary just around the corner, there’s a chance that we could end up with a newly-regenerated 12th Doctor.
