The big casting news from over the weekend is that Zack Snyder has cast the Oscar nomination Michael Shannon to play a villain in the upcoming Superman reboot, “Superman Man of Steel.”
Shannon will play General Zod, a military strategist from Krypton who is the general of its armed forced. The character appeared in both 1978’s “Superman” and its sequel “Superman II,” where he was played by Terence Stamp .
“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t,” said Zach Snyder, the director of the new film. “Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”
There’s no word on if he’ll be the main villain or one of many, but after we got confirmation from Adam Harris’ representatives that he’s auditioning for Lex Luthor, we have to assume it is the latter.
Shannon will be joining Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner.
So we definitely have Zod and there’s rumors of both Lex Luthor and Metallo… just how many bad guys do we need? Is Joel Schumacher secretly directing the movie?
