Mila Kunis (Black Swan) has officially been cast in Disney and Sam Raimi’s upcoming film “Oz, The Great and Powerful.” She will play Theodora, the Wicked Witch of the West.
Despite rumors that Kunis had little interest in the project, she is now officially on board in the prequel to the 1939’s “The Wizard of Oz.” The film will explore the origins of the great and powerful Oz and how he came to be. It will also be a love story involving the Wizard and Theodora.
Kunis is set to co-star along side James Franco, who will play the Wizard, “a fast-talking snake oil salesman and illusionist who flees a traveling circus and winds up whisked away in a hot air balloon by a tornado to Oz where he must face off against real magic and the sisters battling for control of the land.”
Franco had replaced Johnny Depp who had replaced Robert Downey Jr. who was originally cast but left the project.
Kunis is the first witch to be cast. Other actresses currently on the short list for the other witches include Olivia Wilde, Amy Adams, Kate Beckinsale, Keira Knightley and Rebecca Hall.
No release date has been set for “Oz, The Great and Powerful.” Filming will begin this summer.
