The weekend’s box office numbers are in and Monsters Vs. Aliens has trounced all the competition with this years biggest opening weekend to date, 58.2 million dollars. Premiering at a distant but respectable third was Haunting in Connecticut which earned just over 23 million. Julia Robert’s Duplicity limped to a second week ranking of fifth place with just 7.5 million.
Knowing, the Nicolas Cage thriller that came in third, took the crown for the weekend in the foreign box office.
Meanwhile, Race to Witch Mountain’s three week cumulative earnings of just over 53 million puts any sequels in pretty heavy doubt as far as I’m concerned. After all, Disney dumped the Narnia series and they had much better numbers.
Also, Watchmen came in in 8th place this week, finally flopping its giant blue penis across the 100 million dollar mark.
