NBC Passes On New ‘Wonder Woman’ Series

Thanks but no thanks. NBC has decided to pass on David E. Kelley’s production pilot of “Wonder Woman,” and it appears as if the new series plagued by mixed reviews is dead.

Originally created by William Moulton Marston in All Star Comics #8 in December 1941, Wonder Woman was created to as a feminist role model whose mission was to bring the Amazon ideals of love, peace, and sexual equality to the world.

The new series aimed at updating and modernizing DC Comics’ most iconic heroine, would have seen Wonder Woman Diana Prince as a powerful CEO executive by day and a lasso wielding crime fighter by night.

NBC has not provided a reason as to why the pilot was rejected, but insiders are reporting that it was due to the poor reviews at test screenings. The initial costume didn’t help as well as most purists thought she looked more like a Halloween hooker than an Amazonian princess. It looks like all the tweaking and retooling of the design which was seen later in some of the set pics didn’t help either.

While there is still a chance for “Wonder Woman” it would most likely involve rewrites or a pitch to another network. As excited as I was for a new “Wonder Woman” series, this news is not disappointing as this wasn’t the Wonder Woman I (or anyone) wanted to see. NBC knew that and did the right thing.
