NBC’s ‘Heroes’ Will Not Receive A TV Movie Finale To Wrap Up Cancelled Series

While NBC’s “Heroes” started out with tremendous promise, it ended in a kind of train wreck where no one survived from. Fans, not satisfied with the show just being cancelled, promoted NBC to confirm that the network executives were planning on releasing a two hour finale in order to wrap up the series. However, in light of recent development, the chances of actually seeing that two hour finale seems unlikely.

EW reports NBC has decided not to pursue a “Heroes” TV movie to their disgraced series. NBC will instead just let it simply end without a proper finale. The show’s creator Tim Kring, remains optimistic however, hinting that “Heroes” may be revived in some other form. Here’s what he told EW:

“[The] Heroes brand is an extremely broad premise. It was a premise about ordinary people, an undisclosed number of people all over the world, who were waking up to these extraordinary abilities. Any number of stories could happen around that. We never posited a single ending or a single premise. It wasn’t about getting off of an island or stopping something from happening. We told stories in volumes that had a beginning, a middle, and an end. Those volumes could go on and on and on with many different characters. As a result, that Heroes universe is something that can be tapped into again in many ways. Certainly, a movie is a way to do that and clearly, there is an entire world and a number of platforms that this property could live in.”

Personally, I say good riddance. While the show had early promise, it became so convoluted and pointless by the third and remaining seasons. Longevity of shows depend on strong character development and growth, something that was lacking from the show. And as someone who actually read comics, “Heroes” was almost an insult to the connoisseurs of the actual medium. It was not original. It was not groundbreaking. And let’s be honest, it was never that good even to begin with.
