“Thor” may be one of the most anticipated superhero movies of 2011, but recently it’s come under fire for having black actor Idris Elba play a “Whites only” role.
Fundamentalist group the Council of Conservative Citizens are boycotting Kenneth Branagh-directed “Thor,” due Elba who was cast as the Norse god Heimdel. According to the CoCC, Elba has no right to be playing a Norse god, because according to the group, Norse gods are real people who exist and are Aryan.
From their blog, they write: “It’s not enough that Marvel attacks conservatives values, now mythological Gods must be re-invented with black skin.”
“It seems that Marvel Studios believes that white people should have nothing that is unique to themselves.”
Kyle Rogers, who heads the Council’s South Carolina chapter, believes that, “Marvel has taken their anti-white, radical campaign even further. They cast a black man as a Norse Deity.”
The Council, which calls the States “an integral part of European civilization and the European people,” is now organized an online boycott of “Thor,” Marvel and what they believe is common decency.
Elba who is best known for his role as Stringer Bell on “The Wire” believes the boycott is absurd asking,
“Thor’s mythical, right? Thor has a hammer that flies to him when he clicks his fingers. That’s OK, but the color of my skin is wrong?”
