The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been a fan favorite for Netflix viewers over the last couple of years, but it apparently wasn’t a strong enough show to keep executives from giving it the ax today.
This morning, it was announced that the show was being canceled and would be coming to an end with part 4, the final 8-episode batch of episodes, later this year. Here’s what showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had to say:
“Working on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been an incredible honor from Day One. The cast, beginning with Kiernan as everyone’s favorite teen witch, has been an absolute joy. I am beyond thankful to the crew, writers, editors, assistants, and everyone for pouring so much love into this dark dream of a show. I’m also grateful to our partners at Netflix, Warner Bros., Berlanti Television and Archie Comics for letting us tell the story we wanted to tell, the way we wanted to tell it. We can’t wait for everyone to see Part Four.”
This is the second Riverdale spin-off to get canceled in the last two days after Katy Keene got the ax yesterday. With the fan love for the show, it will be interesting to see whether it is truly dead, or whether HBO Max could pull a “Lucifer” and give it a second chance.
