Edgar Wright is one of the more creative mainstream directors out there right now and I’m really excited about Baby Driver. Granted, I’m not as excited as I was back when he was directing Ant-Man, but some things just aren’t meant to be. One of the things that is really drawing me to Baby Driver, the film about a getaway driver who is pulled into one last big heist before he and his girlfriend have a chance at freedom, is that it feels like a modern day American Graphitti.
I once read that when George sat down and wrote the script to his first big hit, he started every scene with the song that he planned to have playing in the background. Seeing the promotional material for this film and how important music is, not only to the story’s vibe, but to the movie itself, I have to imagine that Wright approached the script to Baby Driver much in the same way. I really hope someone takes the time to ask him about it during the upcoming press junket.
Along with Ansel Elgort and Kevin Spacey, Baby Driver also stars: Jon Bernthal, Eiza González, Jon Hamm, and Jamie Foxx.
