After Cars 2, I really wasn’t looking forward to a third film from the franchise, but kids love the toys, so it had to get made, right? The good news is that it seems they’ve taken the qualitative critiques of the last film and actually listened to them. Now, as we visit Lightning McQueen for a third time, it appears we’ll be getting a story that is more personal in nature compared to the first sequel. Disney/ Pixar, for their part, seem to be willing to take some risks. Heck, the first trailer apparently made kids cry, because they thought Lightning died. I’m cautiously optimistic.
Owen Wilson is returning as Lightning McQueen and he’ll be joined by Armie Hammer as his new rival – Jackson Storm, Cristela Alonzo as the friendly trainer Cruz Ramirez, with Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shalhoub, Paul Dooley, Cheech Marin, Katherine Helmond, Larry the Cable Guy, Angel Oquendo, and Darrell Waltrip, Cars 3 opens June 16, 2017.
Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage.
