New Details And Possible Character Reveals For ‘Captain America’ Sequel

In a recent interview with “Captain America” screenwriters Chris Markus and Stephen McFeely, the duo revealed that the “Captain America” sequel may involve flashbacks of Cap’s past as well introduce classic supporting charters from the comic book.

The film will blend both modern day action as well as some classic war-time action in the 1940s.

We certainly want at least a portion of the ’40’s, I think. The span of [Captain America: The First Avenger] is about two or three years, and there’s a few times in the film where you jump four months ahead, you jump six months ahead. So we did that with the intention of saying, ‘Okay, there are certainly unseen adventures that Captain America went on in that period that if we want to, we can go back and explore later.

Aside from the setting, the duo also revealed how they are interested in exploring some of Cap’s supporting cast from the comic book. Characters such as Sharon Carter (a present-day relative of Peggy Carter) and Cap’s “other sidekick,” The Falcon.

I want both of them! Sharon is meaty, almost to a point where you get a little uncomfortable because her relation to Peggy has shifted over the years, as time has passed. She’s the sister, she’s the cousin, she’s the niece. You have to walk a fine line there because it does seem like you’re dating your girlfriend’s daughter. Falcon is awesome. We can’t play with time so much to have Cap go back to Harlem in the ’70’s and clean up the streets, but it would be awesome to go straight up, like, ‘Shaft’ with Cap and the Falcon.

Although the sequel for “Captain America” is just in the brainstorming stage, the direction that they are taking it is a positive one. I’m not sure how they’d be able to create a story blending two different timelines, but it is important to remind audiences that he is a man lost in a different time. I loved how the first movie ended, hopefully some of that will be carried over to “The Avengers” and the eventual Cap sequel.
