New Eye-Opening Red-Band Trailer For James Gunn’s ‘Brightburn’

James Gunn may have been in comic book movie jail for a while, but he used the opportunity to produce a very different kind of superhero film in Brightburn, the dark tale of a boy with Superman’s powers and seemingly the Joker’s mind. The trailers for the film have all featured a very particular scene involving a waitress in a diner, an exploding lightbulb, and an unfortunate injury. Now, the studio has released an extended version of the scene as their first red-band clip from the film. It definitely sets up the horror version of the Superman story very well, but damn it is hard to watch if you are squeamish about eyes.

What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.
