To get behind Josh Trank’s reboot of The Fantastic Four means letting go of cannon and just accepting that we are in for a much different, yet hopefully amazing take on one of the most famous super hero families in the history of pop culture.
We knew we were in for something different ever since the stories about Michael B. Jordan taking the role of Johnny Storm, The Human Torch became fact. Next, we get news that we are probably looking at Kate Mara or Saoirse Ronan for Susan Storm. That right there tells us we are in for big changes.
When rumors that Miles Teller was the best bet for Reed Richards, I was a little taken back… but I think I can actually picture it… and I like the chemistry that Teller and Jordan already share.
Now comes the rumor that Josh Gad is up for the role of Ben Grimm/ The Thing. I just don’t get it. I watched him in his short lived sitcom with Jenna Elfman and Bill Pullman on TV. He was one of the things that made it hard for me to give the show a chance. Some people say he’s perfect for the role because “The Thing is the closest character Marvel has to and Pixar character, and he showed great voice range in Frozen.”
I call BS. The key to making The thing believable is in making Ben Grimm believable. Unless they’ve rewritten the character from military pilot to hapless stoner buddy, I just can’t see it working.
