New Line Cinema Making ‘Y: The Last Man’ Film a Top Priority

It was starting to feel like any hope of a Y: The Last Man film was just about dead. As it turns out, that’s not the case. The folks at New Line cinema have just re-affirmed their desire to make the movie based off one of the best comic books ever written in the world by Brian K. Vaughn.

Not too long ago, Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia (writers from the series Jericho) turned in a script that the studio actually liked enough that they’ve bumped the film up the priority list.

In fact, they liked it so much that they are now looking at directorial candidates like Louis Letterier and DJ Caruso.

The next big question is who will play Yorrick Brown. For a while, Shia LaBeouf was tied to the role. I don’t think that there’s anyone out there sad about the fact that didn’t pan out. The only other series name that has ever been in the pot so far is Zachary Levi. Who would you want to play Yorrick?

On the off chance that you are unfamiliar with Y: The Last Man… and shame on you if you are, here’s the synopsis of the first volume of the collected works:

Y: THE LAST MAN, winner of three Eisner Awards and one of the most critically acclaimed, best-selling comic books series of the last decade, is that rare example of a page-turner that is at once humorous, socially relevant and endlessly surprising.

Written by Brian K. Vaughan (LOST, PRIDE OF BAGHDAD, EX MACHINA) and with art by Pia Guerra, this is the saga of Yorick Brown—the only human survivor of a planet-wide plague that instantly kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome. Accompanied by a mysterious government agent, a brilliant young geneticist and his pet monkey, Ampersand, Yorick travels the world in search of his lost love and the answer to why he’s the last man on earth.
