As much as I enjoy a super artsy, Laz Burhman style musical, I’m loving the traditional and authentic approach that they are taking with the Les Miserables film. Now, we’ve got three excellent new chunks of video from the set. Two of them are pretty basic. There’s one of Jackman as Jean Valjean in a cemetery, singing. You can’t really hear much there, but it is nice to see him actually belting it out and not just lip synching. There is also a video of Russel Crowe as Javert, riding around on a horse.
The real gem is the first video. In that clip, we get to see the filming of the big musical finale. This is clearly filmed with an overlaid audio track, but it is still something pretty F’ing fantastic. This is where you get to see both Jackman and Anne Hathaway singing “Do You Hear The People Sing”.
Along with Jackman, Russel and Hathaway, the film also features Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Sacha Baron Cohen, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, and Helena Bonham Carter.
Les Miserables on movie screens December 14th.
