New Superman To Be Older, 35-40 Range, In Snyder’s ‘Superman’ Reboot?

Here’s something interesting that surfaced regarding Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman reboot. According to a recent Vulture interview with “The Social Network” co-star Armie Hammer, Warner Bros. is looking to cast an actor 35 to 40 years of age to tackle the role of Superman in the new reboot.

Vulture:
You’ve made a lot of people’s Superman fantasy-casting lists. Did you have your people put in a call to Zack Snyder, who’s directing the reboot?

“You know what’s funny? I did talk to my people recently about that for the first time, and I think they’re going a little older with Superman. I hear they’re going 35, 40,” says Hammer.

I’m not sure what to make of this. But coincidentally it does coincide with the rumor of “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm playing the Man of Steel, who is 39.

I wouldn’t bite too hard on this however, since Snyder himself did reveal last week that he would like to see Brandon Roth reprise the role again. If I had the choice I would go with Roth as well. There’s no denying that he just looks the role. Of course that’s not to say I’m entirely against an older Superman (a la Alex Ross and Mark Waid’s “Kingdom Come” Elseworld series), I’m just not quite sold on it actually happening in film until the right actor comes along. Jon Hamm is not that actor.
