We are two weeks away from the premiere of the second half of the ninth season of AMC’s The Walking Dead. With Rick, Carl, and Maggie gone, it’s not all that surprising that the Season 9a finale was the lowest -rated mid-season finale in the show’s finale. It will be interesting to see if the threat of the Whisperers will be enough to get the viewers back.
What the show has going for it on the Whisperer front is solid talent by way of Samantha Morton and Sons of Anarchy star, Ryan Hurst, but people walking around in skin masks, living among the walkers was a hard sell in the comics and I expect it will be an even harder sell on TV. That means the rest of the season is going to come down to the power they throw behind Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, and Melissa McBride, all of whom now have big expensive new contracts that tie them to the world through the show and through stand-alone projects.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on 2.10.19
