Before we get started, am I the only one who hates the new trend of putting a 5 second clip ahead of trailers to try and capture mobile users’ attention?
Magnificent Seven is another one of those movies that we could wring our hands about and ask if it needs to get remade, but we all know that would be a waste of time and that studios are going to keep doing it until it stops making them money. The good news, is that at least they’ve put together a hell of a team for it.
The remake, directed by Training Day’s Antoine Fuqua, and starring Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Vincent D’Onofrio, Peter Sarsgaard, Ethan Hawke, and Michael Sensmeier, looks pretty good from what we can tell so far. There’s plenty of action, a decent amount of action, and more than enough eye candy to convince girlfriends who don’t want to go see a western on a Friday night.
With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.
