Big news from Wondercon
One of our Webmonkeys just gave me a call from the floor of Wondercon where he just got out of the Watchmen panel featuring Zach Snyder, Dave Gibson and the entire cast. Sounds like fans have a big incentive to make the march 6th opening weekend a huge success:
Zack Snyder says that if The Watchmen does well when it gets its initial theater release, they will follow up with a directors cut release in theaters!

Also, he laid out some special details about the ultimate Watchmen’s special edition DVD:
The ultimate special edition DVD will combing the Black Freighter DVD and the theatrical release. They will be intertwined together to make one cohesive story, just like in the original comic book.
While all those details are great, people really want to know if the move lives up to the hype. Here’s what our reporter had to say after screening part of the film in the panel:
– The movie has a great historical feel to it. The way they blend the era and the historical context of the film gives it a feel that is kind of like a cross between: Forrest Gump, 300 and Dark Knight.
– In regards to the movie’s opening sequence. It’s one of the best he’s ever seen!
– As you can expect with with any Zach Snyder film, there’s excessive slow motion, especially in fight scenes, but it is tolerable.
– The voice over (aka Batman voice) for Rorschach’s diary is sometimes a bit wordy and hard to understand/make out. It may have worked well in the comics but it didn’t translate that well for the movie.
-All in all, Watchmen fans have nothing to worry about. You feel like you are brought right into the story and the 1980’s when the story takes place.
– Also, the music soundtrack kicks ass.
