The inevitable sequel to last year’s box office hit, “Paranormal Activity” is coming in October. It was never a question of if, but when. Moreover, while the original was filmed at a tiny $15,000 budget, one can expect the sequel to be a full fledge Hollywood film. If not, the studios are at least treating it that way by hiring “Saw” director Kevin Greutert to direct.
According to THR, Kevin Greutert will direct the sequel while Michael R. Perry will write. Greutert edited the first five Saw films and sat in the director’s chair for the sixth installment last October.
Oren Peli the original creator and direct who backs Greutert and Perry says, “These guys get it, and the fans won’t be disappointed.” Meanwhile Peli will also help produce the film, along with Jason Blum, who helped Peli finance the first.
Paramount expects to release the film around the same time as the first, a few days before Halloween on Oct. 22, 2010. Since the Paranormal formula is sort of a one hit wonder, it’s anybody’s guess whether or not it will duplicate the success the original had which took the nation by storm and banked $150M. If I were a betting man, I’d bet no.
But I guess only time well tell. We’ll have more as the actual title and plot details get release in the coming months.
