‘Percy Jackson’ Must Not Have Sucked That Bad, Now Getting Sequel

If disappointment was a movie it would have been the flop that was “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.” But apparently the movie must not have sucked that badly ($226 million dollars) as Fox is moving forward with a sequel.

According to the LA Times, the studio has already hired screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (Ed Wood, Agent Cody Banks) to write the film.

The film is being subtitled as “The Sea of Monsters” and will be based on the second book in Rick Riodan’s five-book series. Chris Columbus who directed the first film will not return, and Fox is currently seeing a new director.

Logan Lerman who played Percy Jackson in the first film, will reprise his role. Filming is expected to begin as early as next summer.

Here’s a synopsis description of the second book:
After a summer spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson—a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any “normal” friends.
