The imagination train wreck has pulled into a new station. Not only are they planning to do yet another movie based off a board game, but they are remaking Clue! One of the best board game movies of all time!
According to Variety, Universal has attached Gore Verbinski to develop and direct “Clue,” a live-action murder mystery based on the Hasbro board game.
The previous version of the film, released in 1985 is a cult classic and there is a good chance that the internet will see a lot of backlash over Hasbro’s decision to remake the movie. Especially, if they don’t invite Tim Curry to be in it. With Verbinki in Charge, I would not be surprised if they offer the role of the Butler to Johnny Depp.
As we’ve mentioned this is not the first toy movie to get the green light lately.
Hasbro has “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra,” both of which will be distributed by Paramount this summer. At Universal, Hasbro hatched “Stretch Armstrong,” which just set Steve Oedekerk as writer; the Ridley Scott-directed “Monopoly”; “Candyland,” which Etan Cohen (“Tropic Thunder”) is writing for Kevin Lima to direct; and “Ouija,” which is being produced by Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes banner.
If you didn’t think that studio heads had their collective heads up their butts just yet, read what this studio head had to say about clue and that should pretty much seal the deal.
“Clue is a global thriller and transmedia event that uses deductive reasoning as its storytelling engine.”
