‘Pirates’ Director Gore Verbinski Teaming Up With Johnny Depp For Disney’s ‘The Lone Ranger’?

“Pirates of the Caribbean” director Gore Verbinski is currently in talks with Disney to direct the big screen adaptation of the classic TV series “The Lone Ranger.”

If Verbinski were to be hired (and we don’t see why he wouldn’t), he will once again direct Johnny Depp who was previously cast in the role of Tonto, the lone rangers sidekick. Which if you think about it, makes no sense with The LONE Ranger being alone and stuff.

The Lone Ranger is an American radio and television show created by George W. Trendle. It followed the adventures of a masked Texas Ranger in the American Old West who rode around on his white horse Silver and fought injustices with the aid of his clever, Native American sidekick, Tonto. The film is said to be an origins story for The Lone Ranger.

If Verbinski does get hired, he would also reunite with Jerry Bruckheimer who will be producing and who he had worked with on the Pirates films. Meanwhile, Justin Haythe will pen the script.

Verbinski is currently working on the CGI animated film “Rango,” which incorporates the voice talents of Johnny Depp as a talking lizard.
