When Disney yanked Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales from their 2015 release calendar so the script could get some much needed tweaking, some people thought that this might be the quietest way to shelve the series. Now, it looks like they really did just want to tweak the script (and apparently remove a much rumored Kraken). Disney has just officially announced that the movie will hit big screens on July 7th, 2017.
At this point we have no idea what “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” will be about, as no details have been released. What we do know is that Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki) are set to direct with the screenplay being penned by Jeff Nathanson (Men in Black 3 and Catch Me If You Can).
Johnny Depp is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow and is expected to pick up from where he last left off in 2011. “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” had raked in over $1 billion at the worldwide box office so it’s no surprised Disney is returning to what makes them gold.
I’m looking forward for a film that is more like the original Curse of the Black Pearl and less like the Monster adventures of the sequels.
