Amazon Prime’s new comedy, Upload from The Office creator Greg Daniels was a really happy surprised when it dropped last week. We went in skeptical and then realized that we’d watched all of season one in a single sitting. Now, just a week later, the Robbie Amell led comedy has been renewed for a second season.
If you’ve never heard of the show, it is a comedy that takes place in the near future where you can opt to have your consciousness uploaded into virtual world when you die. When Nathan Brown dies in a self-driving car accident, he wakes up in one of these virtual worlds, with everything at his fingertips, as long as he’s nice to his still-living girlfriend who controls his account.
It’s an interesting premise that gets more interesting as we meet Andy Allo’s character, the living concierge to Nathan’s virtual life and even more interesting as we find out that Nathan’s death might not have been that accidental at all.
While this show is not on the level with a series like The Good Place, it does make for an excellent companion series. It is a funny show with some deeper ideas that it was just starting to explore by the end of the first season’s cliffhanger. We can’t wait to see what happens next.
Here’s what Daniels had to say about the renewal:
“I am thrilled to continue a great relationship with Amazon Studios and this wonderful cast and find out what happens next to Nora and Nathan and Ingrid and their 2033 world,” said Daniels. “With this news I can stop drawing my season 2 flip book.”
