In a recently interview “G.I. Joe 2” producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed a slew of new information about the sequel based on Hasbro’s Real American Heroes franchise.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to have a “full-on lead role” where he will play the character Roadblock who, like Snake Eyes, will both be dynamic and important to the main storyline.
Another bit of new information is that fans can expect to see a “tremendous amount” of ninjas in the sequel. Here’s what Bonaventura had to say about that:
“The ninja fans are going to love it. There’s a tremendous amount of it. What’s interesting is, we both have that going on in the Snake Eyes story, but we’ve found a way to bring that element into the Joes’ story. I think anybody who’s a fan of dark, in the middle of the night [action with] a dangerous foe arriving, this is a movie for you.”
While all this sounds good and dandy, I hope it doesn’t mean the entire sequel turns into an all out ninja fest. As much as I like Snake Eyes and Stormshadow, when I’m watching a G.I. Joe movie, I want to see Joes and Cobra (and no Wayans brother). I’ll hold my cynicism for now, but whatever they put out next certainly can’t be as bad as the first film.
“G.I. Joe 2” is currently shooting for a summer 2012 release.
