Comedy Central is in love with the 90s. Not only are they prepping reboots of Beavis and Butthead and a spin-off of Daria, but now it has been announced that they will be releasing a new Ren and Stimpy cartoon series. However, they want to make it very clear that this version of the show will have a brand new creative team and will have nothing to do with the show’s creator and the subject of the upcoming “Happy Happy Joy Joy” documentary, John Kricfalusi.
There is no word on what we can expect from the new show, but there are a lot of questions as to whether or not it will work without Kricfalusi. Despite the fact that his creation was one of the most influential shows for anyone in modern animation, no previous attempts to bring Ren and Stimpy to life have been successful without his personal brand of madness. It’s just a shame that his madness had to be bad enough that there’s a whole documentary on the way about it.
