Not sure if this is true, but it’s getting some play on the fan sites. By now, we all know that Marvel will have Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. We also know that Marvel has creative control over the direction of the next Spider-Man film over at Sony. With the influx of material from the Ultimates Universe that we’ve seen in the MCU, like Sam Jackson as Nick Fury, it is no big surprise that Marvel would be looking to shake things up with their famous wall-crawler.
The rumor comes from The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider. He told Slashfilm:
“Listen, this is not set in stone guys, but I’m telling you right now, Spider-Man’s not gonna be white. Spider-Man is not going to be white … I am 95% sure. Spider-Man’s gonna be, most likely, black. But there’s a chance he could also be Latino. 95% sure, not white.”
Does that mean that we’ll be getting the Ultimate Universe’s Miles Morales as Spider? Probably. This could give some new life to the franchise, but it also means that we’ll probably also need a new origin story (something everyone is sick of). It could just be a media grab, because nothing about Spider-Man is going to get more press than making him a minority.
